Paul Lanchester
Briefly explain your role
I am Security Manager at GXO Burton upon Trent looking after the Superdry account.
What do you love about your job?
My interaction with the employees, and I also have a great team on site around me, and brilliant support from the Kings Operation Manager.
What made you decide to start a career in the security sector?
I started working the doors back in the late 90s and it has carried on from that, in one capacity or another.
How does KGS support you in your role?
KGS are very supportive in my role on site, and I see an ops manager at least once a week. Or sometimes twice.
Has there been any significant barriers to progression in your career within the security profession?
None at present.
How has your previous work experience prepared you for your role in security?
In my last job I was a contractor manager for Corps Security, and as it was an operational role, I feel I bring a lot of that to site.
What’s your most memorable moment in your career so far?
At GXO Burton, my manager was choking on the cake that I brought in for my birthday so had to perform the Heimlich Maneuver to remove the blockage.
What opportunities do you feel the security profession offers?
I think in security if you are committed and don’t mind working long hours you can go very far.
What do you do at work on a daily basis?
Access and egress vehicles and pedestrians, CCTV Monitoring, searching, reports to GXO and Superdry.
What advice would you give for someone new starting in the industry?
It is a rewarding job, and if you like interaction with people, speaking to people on their level you will go a long way.
